Met de trekproef wordt een stress-strain diagram verkregen, waaruit veel belangrijke materiaal en/of product eigenschappen worden bepaald.

Op basis van de gegevens uit deze proef, kan de buigstijfheid en buigsterkte worden bepaald.

Met deze test kan de heat deflection temperature (HDT) worden bepaald. De HDT is de temperatuur waarbij een kunststof begint te vervormen.
