Heat Deflection Temperature

Using the Instron HV3S, the heat deflection temperature (HDT) can be determined. The HDT is the temperature at which a plastic begins to deform. It is determined by applying a specific pressure to the material, then heating the material at a certain rate. The HDT is the temperature at which the material bends by 0.2%.

The HDT helps determine the maximum temperature at which a product can be used before it starts to deform. This information is crucial for assessing the suitability of the material for various applications.

The HDT test is typically conducted according to ISO 75.
