With FTIR-ATR (infrared), specific functional groups of a material can be identified. Every material has its own characteristic functional groups, and based on these, the material type can be determined. FTIR analysis can be used to identify the type of material used in a product, determine the composition of a waste stream, and identify the functional groups present in a specific material.
